Oak Tree Primary School pupils in Mansfield visited the Jubilee Tesco store twice in the run-up to Christmas to support a tree blessing and to sing to shoppers.

They worked with Oak Tree Conservation Group, Sherwood Forest Trust and Tesco staff to create bird-feeder pine cones, fat balls and string peanuts, and went to Oak Tree Heath to hang the feeders and to bless a Scots pine tree with prayers and songs.

The blessing was led by the Rev Phil Stead, of St Alban’s Church, Forest Town. The youngsters went back to the Tesco store for refreshments and received a gift.

The school choir returned to Tesco to sing to shoppers and raised £157.64 for school funds.
