Kind-hearted pupils at Forest Glade Primary School, Sutton, have donated Easter eggs to the maternity ward at King’s Mill Hospital for staff to hand out to the siblings of new babies born over the Easter weekend.

The decision to donate the eggs was made after year three students at the school took part in a siblings project as part of their studies – and they jointly decided that they would like to give the eggs to siblings of new babies.

Ruth Nanthambwe, Ward Sister on the Sherwood Birthing Unit at Sherwood Forest Hospitals, which runs the Sutton hospital, said: “What a wonderful and thoughtful gesture from the lovely students at Forest Glade School. Quite often in the excitement of a new baby joining the family, older siblings can feel a little overwhelmed as they are not used to sharing the attention of the grown-ups in their lives.

“I’m sure all the recipients of the eggs this weekend will be much appreciative of this donation of Easter eggs. Thank you once again to the lovely students at Forest Glade School and all involved in the organisation and delivery of the Easter Eggs”

Children’s services at the hospitals trust have also recently received another generous donation of Easter eggs.

On Sunday 10 April, Mansfield Road Runners made their annual journey from the John Cockle pub, Sutton, to King’s Mill to donate Easter eggs and toys, which will be distributed across all children’s services within the trust. The club also donated a cash amount of £6,000 to the trust, which is to be split between the neonatal and children’s wards.

Joy Wilson, the community involvement coordinator at Sherwood Forest Hospitals, said of the event: “Each year this wonderful event brings smiles to the faces of everyone who attends and it really is a sight to behold, with over 200 scooters descending upon the hospital to make their donation.

“We really appreciate their generous donations of gifts and money, which make such a difference.

“The Easter eggs and toys succeed in lifting the spirits of all the children currently in the hospital and the kind donation of money will help us to make improvements to our children’s services in the future.”
