Public support needed for groups to win £100,000

Posted onPosted on 13th Nov

Three groups supporting young people in Nottinghamshire are urgently seeking support to help them win a share of a £1million prize pot – with a week to go until voting closes.

St Wilfrid’s Church of England Primary School in Calverton, Asylum Academy for Extreme Sports and  The Jorja-Rose Foundation are all representing Persimmon Homes Nottingham in the housebuilder’s Building Futures competition – and are in with a chance of walking away with up to £100,000 each.

The three organisations have been shortlisted along with 93 other groups from across England, Wales and Scotland in categories targeting grassroots sports, health organisations and arts & education projects.

One initiative from each category will go on to win £100,000, decided on the highest number of public votes. As well as the £100,000 first prize, there will be a £50,000 second prize and a £20,000 third prize in each category, while a further 87 shortlisted projects will each receive £5,000.

Voting closes at midnight on November 19.

St Wilfrid’s Church of England Primary School, in Calverton, plans to create a brand-new inspirational classroom dedicated to music and the arts.

Extreme sports specialists in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, Asylum Academy for Extreme Sports, will use the prize funds to create a brand-new 30 metre length bouldering wall as well as double its equipment hire, enabling more youngsters to try their sports.

The Jorja-Rose Foundation was set up by Carla Dawson in memory of her daughter who bravely battled brain cancer and sadly passed away. The charity supports children and families who are fighting against cancer and wants to purchase a holiday cabin in the Nottinghamshire countryside for families to escape from the day-to-day hospital appointments and treatments and help create precious family memories.

Building Futures is delivered through the Persimmon Charitable Foundation in partnership with Team GB, the British Olympic Association.

Neil Follows, managing director of Persimmon Homes Nottingham, said: “Building Futures aims to create lasting legacies in communities across the UK and we believe that each of our three finalists would be able to make a huge difference with the £100,000 top prize.

“Your support could change the lives of hundreds of local people so we would urge you to get behind your chosen charity because there’s not long left to vote.”

Online voting runs until midnight on November 19. For more information visit www.persimmonhomes.com/building-futures/.
