A Sutton school has been recognised for its commitment to deliver high-quality physical education — and for its support of other primary schools to do the same.
The award bestowed jointly by Affinity Teaching School Association, the Discovery Trust, and the Association for Physical Education, credited Mapplewells Primary and Nursery School for its exemplary approach to the teaching and leadership of primary school education.
Mapplewells PE specialist Tom Darby said the school committed to encouraging participation in a wide variety of sports, even during the unusual circumstances created during the coronavirus pandemic.
“We are extremely proud to have received this recognition,” he added. “We worked hard to share advice, provide support and offer numerous opportunities.
“This has enabled schools, including Mapplewells, to maintain an engaging and progressive PE curriculum.
“Our partner schools have adapted extremely well, and we have all learned so much.
“As a member school of the Flying High Trust, we have lots of exciting events planned and we are hoping that as restrictions ease many more opportunities will become available to share our love of sport.”
Oli Tatterson, PE lead at Leamington Primary and Nursery Academy, Sutton, said the support his school received was invaluable.
“Mapplewells and Mr Darby are always willing to share best practice and help in any way they can.
“It has helped sport and physical education develop at Leamington and I am very grateful.”
