Police charity to back hospice for year

Posted onPosted on 22nd Apr

The John Eastwood Hospice Trust, Sutton, is to benefit from support from Nottinghamshire Police.
It has been nominated as the new Chief’s Charity for 2021-22.

Hannah Rocha-Leite, the charity’s co-ordinator, said: “Over the last year the force has supported the Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

“We’re awaiting the final results, but we anticipate we have raised in excess of £3,000 for the charity, which is a fantastic effort.

“Over the next few months we will be coming up with some great fundraising ideas and events, Covid-19 permitting of course.

“We’re looking forward to supporting the John Eastwood Hospice Trust.

“The money we raise will make a big difference in the lives of so many people.”

The hospice trust, based on Mansfield Road, provides palliative care to people with advanced or progressive diseases such as cancer, motor-neurone disease and other long-term conditions.

The centre has an in-patient unit, caring for 12 patients, and a day hospice that operates Monday to Friday. They work in conjunction with specialist NHS palliative care services to assist in the organisation and delivery of specialist care, both within the hospice and in the community to patients with a variety of complex needs.

Each year, the force nominates a charity in Nottinghamshire to support. Officers and staff get involved and raise money, giving something back to the communities they serve, and make a difference for a local charity that supports the surrounding communities.

Following a force-wide vote, the hospice won, accumulating 24 per cent of the votes, and fundraising has begun.

All money raised will contribute towards the £450,000-a-year running costs of the hospice.
