Nottinghamshire Police’s cadets flocked to Walesby Forest for their first activity day in person since the pandemic began.

Thirty-nine of the force’s cadets from across the county took part in various activities in teams.

They competed in archery, axe throwing, climbing wall and team-building exercises, with points given throughout each activity for enthusiasm, team working and communication.

The overall winners were presented with the Phil Hogg Police Cadet Memorial Trophy, named after Sgt Phil Hogg, who died from cancer in 2018.

Phil was a great supporter of outdoor pursuits and loved running and fishing. His widow, Adele, thought the creation of a trophy for cadets to be given in his memory was a fitting tribute.

The winning team were also presented with certificates, as well as the trophy, in a final parade by Supt Paul Burrows.
Helen Ridley, force partnerships officer and cadet programme lead at Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The cadets had a great time trying new things, supporting each other and learning skills.

“We were lucky enough to have great weather for the day and we all really enjoyed ourselves. The feedback we have received from cadets and parents has been fantastic and we are already planning for next year’s event.

“We are looking forward to planning more events involving cadets to enable them to gain lifeskills they can take forward into adult life.

“Thank you all the staff and volunteers who helped make this day a success. Without the support of cadet leaders and our partners we would be unable to provide opportunities such as this.”

There are vacancies for Volunteer Cadet Team Leaders at bases at the force headquarters, Bestwood, St Ann’s and Mansfield.
