A small group of Pleasley volunteers will see all their hard work over several months come together when they host a Christmas lights switch-on event in the village on 27th November.
They initially started their Christmas lights group with the aim of raising enough funds to have Christmas lights in Pleasley square — and they have almost achieved that and much more thanks to the generosity of many local businesses and residents.
To help raise money towards the final £1,300 needed, six-year-old Billy Dawes and his mum, Eve, will be walking 10-miles around the village dressed as Christmas elves on 31st October.
The switch-on event on 27th November starts at 12noon in the village square.
There will be around 16 stalls selling products from local business, two children’s fairground rides, a hook-a-duck stand, a Santa’s grotto (advanced booking required, details to follow on the Pleasley Christmas lights Facebook page), a giant walk-through snow globe, and refreshment atalls selling burgers and candy floss.
A stage with music throughout the afternoon will include the arrival of Father Christmas to his grotto at 1.30pm, a local brass band and a school choir.
The Christmas lights will be turned on at 5.30pm to light up the square.
The volunteers are still looking for help during the build-up to the event and on the switch-on day. If anyone can spare time to help, contact Gemma Lennane at Cakefield Cakes Tea Rooms.
People can follow the switch-on event by joining the Pleasley Christmas Lights Facebook page. Leaflets and posters will be distributed round the village in the coming weeks.
