Planting for the future

Pupils from The Flying High Academy, Mansfield, planted six fruit trees in the school grounds to help complement their new building.

The school was helped by the Maun Conservation Group, which accessed a grant from the Greenwood Community Forest tree planting scheme.

Eight children and staff worked with conservation group volunteers to plant four apple and two plum trees.

The children were shown the correct way to plant trees and the importance of mulch for moisture and weed control.

Gill Grievson, Greenwood project officer, said: “We tend to take trees for granted. Tree planting events are a great way of reminding people about the many benefits of trees.”
