Warsop residents are being urged to get involved in a plan to boost The Carrs local nature reserve.
Mansfield District Council has asked Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust to develop a five-year management plan for the reserve.
The plan would steer developments on the site and suggest further improvements for the reserve, wetland and the provision of areas of botanical interest.
It is seen as integral to the council’s efforts towards securing another prestigious Green Flag Award.
Coun Andrew Tristram, portfolio holder for the environment, said: “The Carrs is an important and well-loved beauty spot.
“It deserves to become a Green Flag site and the future plan will help us to achieve that.
“We also need community involvement, so if you love The Carrs and want to see it thrive, please sign up to become a Carrs community volunteer.”
Warsop residents have received a leaflet explaining more about the council’s work at The Carrs and how they can get involved with conservation projects.
The leaflet can be viewed online and volunteers can sign up at www.mansfield.gov.uk/thecarrs
The management plan will go out for consultation in the spring.
The council is continuing to maintain The Carrs and has started work to create a poppy meadow around the memorial and community orchard.
