Pinders’ cheque for cancer charity

Pinders Opticians, which has five practices in North Nottinghamshire, presented Mansfield charity Princess Evie’s Trust with a cheque for £1,960.

The trust, which supports families affected by childhood cancer, was the practice’s chosen charity for 2015.

Pinders organised a range of activities, including Disney tea parties at each practice. Staff dressed as Disney characters and sold cakes to customers, raising £501.

A football-themed raffle to mark the FA Cup Final saw the practices raise £233.

Other fundraising activities included an Easter colouring competition, a tombola, a competition to guess the number of sweets in a jar and a Christmas brain teaser and raffle.

More than £300 was raised from collection tins in the practices and collections were also made at staff parties.

Managing director and optometrist Geoff Rybicki said: “We decided to support the Princess Evie’s Trust as they do some fantastic work in the Mansfield area and we also have a personal connection to Evie’s family.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be able to present the charity with this cheque and help the trust to support as many local families as possible.”

Princess Evie’s Trust was set up in memory of Mansfield youngster Evie Jones, who died the day before her sixth birthday after a battle with leukaemia.
