Caring people joined a 40-hour marathon fundraiser in Rainworth to support the Royal British Legion — covering a remarkable 1,564.87 miles.
Each year members and supporters of the Rainworth, Blidworth and District Royal British Legion branch undertake a big challenge to support the annual Poppy Appeal and remember British servicemen and women who have died in conflicts.
In 2024 they challenged people to keep treadmills, exercise bikes, and a rowing machine moving non-stop for 40 hours —and members of the RBL branch, their friends and family did it!
The fundraiser included a tombola, raffle, games for children, and other activities.
Mansfield Paralympic champion Charlotte Henshaw, a four times Paralympian across two sports — swimming and canoeing — opened the event at The Venue, saying: “Enjoy it, you are doing an amazing thing!”
Charlotte, an eight times paracanoe world champion, won paracanoe gold at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, swimming silver in London 2012 and then bronze in Rio four years later
Pictured are some of the volunteers who kept the machines going over 40 hours.
