Mansfield Building Society Community Support Scheme has donated £135 to the Over 60s Youthful Group to purchase enamel membership badges in celebration of the group’s first anniversary.

The Hucknall-based social group is for those over the age of 60 looking to meet new people in the area. Members meet weekly for a coffee morning held at various venues in the area, and the group hosts a number of activities and excursions throughout the year including meals out and trips to the coast.

Dennis Mayoh, group organiser, said: “I had been to other social groups before but they were often so big that I didn’t really get to know anyone well. I set up this group a year ago and whilst we have grown a lot in that time, everyone still feels like a friend.

“We don’t charge for membership and there is no pressure for any member to attend an event. We receive all funding from donations and are incredibly grateful to The Mansfield for their Community Support Scheme funding. It has allowed us to purchase enamel membership badges for our group members and we wear them with pride.”

Dale Twigger, marketing manager at The Mansfield, attended the group’s first anniversary event and was able to meet members of the group.

He said: “It was a wonderful atmosphere at the anniversary event. The group has only been established for a year, but in that time it is clear to see from the members who attended that many friendships have been made. We are very proud to support the Over 60s Youthful Group because it values a personal approach and in doing so, really makes a difference to the lives of its members.”

Mansfield Building Society donates to local groups in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire through its Community Support Scheme, with a committee of both Society employees and independent members meeting twice yearly in May and November to consider applications.
