Online auction sale to support Skegby church’s community work

Posted onPosted on 6th Jun

Retired businessman and Mansfield Town fanatic Mike Collins has put 41 pieces of framed artwork and memorabilia for sale in an online auction.

He is hoping to raise money to help St Andrew’s Church in Skegby and its “amazing work in our community”.

The Old Stag Charity Art and Memorabilia Sale ends at 8pm on Friday, 30th June and details of the individual pieces can be found at https://www.jumblebee.co.uk/theoldstagartsale.

Mike said: “The 41 lots in the sale, accumulated over my lifetime, have adorned the walls of my offices for many years, but now I’m retired they face being boxed in the loft and unlikely to be seen again. So I’m now offering them to you to help raise money for a fabulous cause.

“St Andrew’s already does some amazing work in our community, including providing mums and young people with a regular place to meet, supporting local foodbanks and the homeless in our area, plus bringing together our elderly for meals and companionship.

“But following the pandemic we want to do much more, and that’s why we’ve embarked on our renewal initiative to help make St Andrew’s an even more significant provider of support for local people and services.

“St Andrew’s was there for me when I was at my lowest, and this is my small way of giving something back, or as we say, ‘paying it forward’! So please bid generously, because I will donate every pound raised by this charity auction to be used to benefit our community, through our renewal programme.”

In September 2003, Mike founded his financial planning business as Mike Collins & Partners, a ‘day one start-up’ with no premises, clients, or fee income. Ten years later it became Collins Wealth Management (CWM) to reflect the increasing family involvement in the business.

One of Mike’s proudest achievements was being appointed senior partner of St James’s Place Wealth Management. Since then, CWM has become one of the successful practices of St James’s Place and is regarded as one of the company’s mentor practices.

Mike added: “I have an emotional connection with all 41 lots. Some I purchased, some were presented to me, and some were gifts from special people.  All the pictures are, therefore, lovingly and appropriately framed, ranging from the humorous for a few pounds to some stunning larger pieces, similar to those often sold in London stores, galleries, and sporting auctions.

“All ‘lot reserves’ are a significant reduction on the market value, so you’ve a great opportunity to pick up a bargain for your home or office.

“All frame sizes quoted are approximate and to the nearest inch. I’ll personally arrange delivery of the lots won in early July after the auction, generally at no cost to the purchaser. But if I can’t do this at no cost I may ask the purchaser to make a small contribution to help us with with delivery costs.”
