Mansfield brothers-in-law George Nelson and Russ Davis have set off on a three-month adventure of a lifetime – rowing unsupported across the Atlantic Ocean, aiming to raise £250,000 for two dementia charities.
The 3,500-mile challenge began on 1st December as the duo set off in front of a small group of supporters from Portugal and aim to reach Sint Maarten in the Caribbean.
Team Oar Blimey are rowing in a Rannoch Adventure R20, which is just 6.5m long and 1.2m wide, in their bid to help Our Dementia Choir with Vicky McClure and Ladybrook Enterprises.
After the Innovation Nottinghamshire Memory boat was named, the challenge got under way following a slight delay caused by a water pump problem.
On Saturday evening Oar Blimey posted on Facebook that the duo were on course and “are over the shipping lanes”.
