Nursery rhyme to be brought to life on stage

Posted onPosted on 1st Oct

The People’s Theatre Company will visit Mansfield Palace Theatre on Tuesday, 22nd October, at 2pm, for There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly – a story told with a mix of live action, puppetry, illusion, animation, special effects, and magic.

The show forms part of a Children’s Festival at the theatre and adjoining Mansfield Museum, with other shows and activities including a Harry Potter-inspired pantomime and Halloween crafts and storytelling sessions.

There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly is a family play with sing-along songs including If You’re Happy and You Know It, Old MacDonald Had A Farm, Mary Had A Little Lamb, Incy Wincy Spider, One Finger One Thumb Keep Moving and There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly!

Although based on the nursery rhyme, the show will also explore the premise that aliens, from a world fuelled not by oil but by stories, need our help to understand this famous nonsense rhyme in order to power their rocket home.
