Nominations are open for the 2025 Youth Power Awards that celebrate inspirational young people across Nottinghamshire.
This year’s red-carpet event takes place on Friday, 25th April at the Delta by Marriott Hotel Nottingham Belfry.
The are six award categories for young people aged seven to 18 years old and local people are being urged to vote for someone who they think deserve a nomination.
The event is organised by Romel Davis, youth outreach co-ordinator at Nova Education Trust, who ran similar awards when working for Nottinghamshire Police.
He said: “These awards are very special and they mean a lot to the young people that win them. We’re urging all professionals, teachers, community leaders, parents, coaches and adults to nominate.
“The awards are a very special night and we’d like to thank everyone who has made this possible including all our sponsors and the stunning Delta by Marriott Hotel Nottingham Belfry.”
The event forms part of the acknowledgement of Stephen Lawrence Day. which takes place on 22nd April every year. Stephen Lawrence was killed in a racist attack by a gang of white men in 1993.
Romel continued: “We have been very honoured to have the support and endorsement of the Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation.
“We are also humbled to have the support of Baroness Doreen Lawrence OBE and the Rt. Hon. Dr. Stuart Lawrence, who are Stephen’s mum and brother.”
The six awards categories are:
Community Champion Award
Awarded to a young person who has contributed to supporting communities, bringing communities together or fought to tackle racism or any type of discrimination.
Young Performer Award
Awarded to a young person who has displayed amazing talents such as singing, dancing, rapping, acting or anything else creative.
Lyrico Steede Award
Awarded to a young person who may have been involved in crime but has made significant progress.
Young Leader Award
Awarded to a young person who leads by example and is a role model to their peers through school, sport or youth work.
Rising Above Adversity Award
Awarded to a young person who despite their background or upbringing are an inspiration to others.
Young Inspiration Award
Awarded to a young person who has done something inspirational, helped others or raised money for charity.
There are six headline sponsors for the event – Greenwood Academies Trust, Homes2Inspire, KHTE Building Services, LexisNexis Risk Solutions, Nova Education Trust, and Raleigh Education Trust. The three award sponsors are Active Minds, MSL Property Care Services, and Nylah Home Ltd.
