Ravenshead man Mike Farley is tackling the 26.2 mile Cancer Research Shine Night Walk Marathon in London for a third time – in memory of his wife, Carol (Cazi), who died from breast cancer.
The 26.2-mile walk on Saturday, 24th September aims to help Cancer Research UK’s fight against the disease.
Over the past two years he has raised £11,200 thanks to the support of fundraisers, including NewsJournal readers.
He said: “This year, I hope to raise at least £3,800, which would bring my fundraising total to £15,000 over the three events. It would be absolutely tremendous if I achieve my target as Cazi and I had 15 incredible years together.
“Raising £15,000 overall would equate to £1,000 for each fantastic year we shared together. I hope that the generous News Journal readers would be willing to support me again to achieve this target.
“By the time I cross the finish line at around 3.30am on Sunday at Old Billingsgate, over the last three years I will have walked a total of 1,500 miles, including all my training, which is equivalent to completing just over 57 full marathons.
“I know Cazi will be with me every step of the way again. She was so inspirational and it’s her drive and determination that gives me the strength to do the Shine Walk again.”
