New service for new mums

Posted onPosted on 28th Dec

The Maternity Unit at King’s Mill Hospital has set up a new service for women who may have questions about their experience of giving birth.

The Birth Afterthoughts Service will give new mums the opportunity to discuss what happened at the birth of their baby with a midwife.

Julie Shaw, senior midwife and supervisor of midwives, said: “It’s not always easy to take in all the information that is given at the time, or just after the birth.

“This new service is available to any woman who has given birth at King’s Mill an opportunity to talk about their memories, feelings and thoughts.

“This process can be very beneficial if parents are finding it difficult to understand, or perhaps come to terms with any events. It may also help to better prepare them for the next pregnancy, labour and birth.”

Women will be given information on the new service on discharge from the unit and can contact the service directly via email at [email protected]
