New service for children with a disability or special educational needs

Families of children and young people with a disability or special educational need can now access support by contacting the ‘Ask Us’ Network in Nottinghamshire– a single point of entry for a variety of needs.

The Network has been developed following feedback from families who requested information, advice and support on a range of issues including education, social care and health services.

Nottinghamshire County Council has consulted young people, parents, providers and staff about the quickest and easiest ways of getting essential information to the people who need it.

Jill Norman, SEND Policy and Provision at Nottinghamshire County Council said: “I’m delighted the Network has been revised and as a result is providing families who need specialist disability and special educational needs advice with the swift and appropriate support they need.”

People in Nottinghamshire who have not accessed such services before are asked to call 0300 500 80 80 where an adviser will direct them to the ‘Local Offer’ or connect them to specialist support from organisations such as Ask Us Education (formerly Parent Partnership), the Family Information Service and the Children’s Development Centre.

More information can be found at www.nottshelpyourself.org on what services and support are available in and around Nottinghamshire.
