New nurses welcomed

Staff at Sherwood Forest Hospitals welcomed in their latest recruits last week during the trust’s first Nursing Welcome Day.

More than 30 newly qualified nurses are set to start working at the Trust in late September after graduating from universities in Lincoln, Nottingham, Leicester and Derby, with the recruits set to be working right across the Trust.

The day gave the new employees the opportunity to tour their future ward, meet with their line manager, ask HR questions and tour King’s Mill Hospital.

Louise Curtis, one of the trust’s new starters, said: “It was great to be able to come along to King’s Mill Hospital and meet staff there as well as the other new starters. I am very excited about joining the trust and am looking forward to this next chapter in my life!”

The Nursing Welcome Day has been developed as part of the trust’s drive to recruit more qualified staff and will now be held annually.

Teresa Shaw, Trust Preceptorship Development Nurse, said: “We are working really hard to recruit nurse and are battling against a national shortage. Our welcome day was a great opportunity to meet nurses due to start with us in late September and get them prepared for their first day.

“It was wonderful to meet such a dedicated bunch of people who were really excited to start work at Sherwood Forest Hospitals. I am very much looking forward to working with them in the future.”
