New dementia community group appeals for volunteers

Posted onPosted on 21st Mar

Volunteers are wanted to help launch a new community group for people with dementia.

Singing For The Brain Group will start on Thursday, 20th April, at Bridge Baptist Church, Mansfield Road, Sutton, from 10.30am to 12noon, and then be held every fortnight.

Organiser Ellie Fessey has been working with people living with dementia for about four years through Sing Along With Ellie.

Last year she joined forces with the Alzheimer’s Society and became a Singing For The Brain delivery partner, establishing a group that meets every two weeks in Pinxton.

She said: “I have since created a not-for-profit community group for these Singing For The Brain groups.  So it is with great pleasure that we announce Sing Along With Ellie Community Group is starting  another Singing For The Brain Group in Sutton.

“We are seeking a few more volunteers for our Sutton group, which will meet every two weeks on a Thursday morning. They would help to hand out songbooks, meet and greet people, make and serve refreshments, and help to tidy up. Most importantly our volunteers need a kind heart.
“Whether you are living with dementia or not, everyone is welcome to join our friendly group. We sing, we laugh with new and old friends. Hot drinks and biscuits are included in the £4 entrance fee.”
