New choir ready to hit high notes

Posted onPosted on 12th Apr

A choir formed in Meden Vale last year has already got something to sing up about.

Voices Of The Vale, a children’s show choir that performed for the first time at the Christmas Market in Warsop, is now planning a concert full of songs from musicals and films and including acting and movement, in October.

The choir was set up in May last year thanks to Lottery funding from Big Warsop, which aims to help groups making a positive difference to their communities.

It consists of two choirs — the junior choir for youngsters aged 4 to 8 and the senior choir for those aged 9 to 16.
Weekly rehearsals are at the Methodist Church in Meden Vale on Friday evenings, from 5.15pm-6pm (juniors) and 6.10pm-6.55pm (seniors), and new members are always welcome.

Sessions cost £2 each per child, which is paid monthly on the first Friday of every month, although new starters can begin by paying for just one session while deciding if they would like to join. There is a parents’ room with free refreshments.

Amelia Elce, who leads the choirs, said: “We deliver our sessions in a fun and energetic way.

“It’s a lovely environment. All of the children are friendly and have made some great new friendships since joining the choir.

“We work on vocal ability and techniques, stage presence, build confidence and have a lot of fun while making music.”
