New CEO for council

Posted onPosted on 21st Jan

Mansfield District Council has appointed a Chief Executive Officer as part of its senior management restructure.

The Full Council last night (20 January) agreed to approve the appointment of Bev Smith as CEO.

Ms Smith, who has been Interim Chief Executive Officer since September 2015, starts her new position from immediate effect.

Before her appointment in September 2015 to the interim post, Ms Smith was Corporate Director of Regeneration and Regulation at the council. She has worked for the council since 2009.

Prior to that she worked for other local authorities, within Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and Mansfield, and spent eight years with Lincolnshire Police as a detective constable.

She said: “I am delighted to be taking forward my work with the council as Chief Executive Officer and working closely with the Executive Mayor in delivering the council’s corporate objectives.

“I am excited by the opportunity that this role brings and am privileged to be able to lead an organisation with such dedicated and committed staff.

“The council has some challenging times ahead as we implement a new management structure which we hope will enable us to deliver our services in a modern, corporate and efficient way.”

Mansfield’s Executive Mayor Kate Allsop said: “Bev excelled in a rigorous interview process and the Personnel Committee voted unanimously in favour of asking council to approve the appointment.

“Bev has made such a positive contribution as Corporate Director and Interim CEO and I’m looking forward to working with her and the management team to deliver our corporate objectives.”
