New book traces war heroes

Posted onPosted on 8th Nov

A teacher with an interest in the first world war has written a book about Forest Town’s Great War heroes.

Tim Priestley, (44), deputy head at Intake Farm Primary School and Nursery, Mansfield, researched names on the war memorial at Forest Town and traced the lives of others who survived the conflict.

Their Duty Done — Forest Town And The Great War, which is priced £6, is available by calling Tim on 07966 790259 or emailing [email protected]

A total of £2 from each sale of the book is going towards the Royal British Legion (RBL) fund to restore the memorial at Forest Town.

Tim has already presented £80 to the RBL for the project.

A regular visitor to the battlefields of France and Belgium, Tim has also written the book Distant Deeds — The Contribution Of Warsop To The Great War (1914-18).

He administers two Facebook groups focusing on local history — WW1 Clipstone Camp and The Great War, Forest Town Nottinghamshire.

Tim said: “These men and their families made the ultimate sacrifice. Despite the passing of over 100 years since the start of the first world war, it is vital we remember them.”
