National awards hope for three health teams

Three teams from Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust, which runs Sutton’s King’s Mill Hospital and Mansfield Community Hospital, are in the running for national nursing awards.

They have been shortlisted in the prestigious annual Nursing Times Awards in October, which recognise those making nursing an innovative, patient-focused and inclusive profession.

The team that have been running Sherwood Forest Hospitals’ ground-breaking Street Health community initiative, working with people living on the streets in the area, has been shortlisted in the Integrated Approaches to Care Award.

The trust’s learning disability team have been shortlisted alongside Vision West Notts College and Ashfield Day Services in the Learning Disabilities Nursing Award category They worked in partnership to produce a video showing carers and family of people with a learning disability the signs of sepsis or infection.

The non-invasive ventilation (NIV) team at King’s Mill has been shortlisted in the Respiratory Nursing Award for the service transformation project that has significantly improved delivery of Acute NIV to patients. The trust’s work has been adopted nationally as part of the British Thoracic Society (BTS) Acute NIV toolkit.

Sherwood Forest Hospitals’ chief nurse, Suzanne Banks, said: “Being recognised nationally for the innovative work that we’re doing as a trust is a real credit to everyone involved.”
