Dementia patients who require hospital care in mid Nottinghamshire are set to benefit from an innovative new ward at King’s Mill Hospital.
Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (SFHFT) will officially open the ward next month, following a state of the art refurbishment which will improve patient care and revolutionise patient experience.
The team who will run the ward are keen that this project has a new and welcoming identity. So, they are asking patients, staff and the public to suggest names for the ward. Ward staff will select their favourite from all the names put forward. The person who suggests the winning name will be invited to the grand opening of the ward week commencing the 11th January 2016.
Dr. Steve Rutter, Clinical Lead for Geriatrics at SFHFT, said: “In creating the new ward we have learned from others but also applied unique ideas and solutions. We believe the result of our work is a ward which will massively reduce risks of harm to our patients as well as having a hugely positive impact on their well-being, mood and happiness.”
The new ward incorporates innovative lighting, colour coded design, safety flooring, sensory rooms, memory walls and flexible nurse stations.
Sean Lyons, Chairman of Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation trust said: “The new ward is a great example of how we are striving to improve our services. We’ve been guided by our patients and led by a project team of committed and talented doctors, nurses and managers, all with the aim of better quality of care and better quality of life for our patients.”
