MP celebrates broadband improvements

Posted onPosted on 26th Aug

Ashfield MP Lee Anderson says it is good news that broadband speeds will finally be improved at the Larwood Estate in Kirkby.

The broadband had been coming via a satellite in Huthwaite with residents telling the MP it was barely fit for purpose. After lobbying internet providers, the new, improved, full-fibre broadband will be available soon.

Eastwood company UK ISP I Need Broadband (INB, has become the latest provider to start building their own gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, with its first projects reaching hundreds of homes and businesses across parts of North Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

INB has now decided to try building its own FTTP infrastructure. One of the first locations to benefit from this build is the Larwood Park Estate, which has seen INB deploying its own FTTP to cover 250 homes. Most of this build, which started several months ago, is now complete and the first beta customers have already gone live.

The ISP has also informed ISPreview.co.uk that there are a further seven estates on a rollout plan for this year in the same region (spread across the Nottingham, Mansfield and Derby).

As part of that work has started on a 6km spine run to a new area, which should pass over 2,000 homes, schools and businesses, and will feed another three housing estates covering more than 400 homes. The broadband will also be installed to Jamsin Gardens and Willow Fields estates in Annesley later this year.

Lee said: “This is great news. I met with residents who had inadequate broadband facilities. Many of them were working from home due to the pandemic but were unable to access the internet and children couldn’t access the internet to do their school work. In 2021 this is not acceptable. I arranged a few meetings with providers and am really pleased that estates like this will be looked after.”

The provider’s initial deployments have so far been self-funded by their own internal private investment, although they’ve recently managed to secure an addition £1m from a local businessman to help fuel future expansion. Existing customers will automatically have their internet speeds increased over time.
