Nottinghamshire residents are being reminded of training courses on using a mobility scooter safely that take place in Retford and Mansfield over the next few weeks.
The county council is providing a £3,000 grant for the Disabilities Living Centre to run morning and afternoon training sessions across the county.
The two remaining dates in the latest round of sessions are as follows:
• Wednesday, 26 August at Retford Fire Station
• Wednesday, 2 September at Mansfield Fire Station.
The sessions will involve practical training including reversing, starting and stopping, slalom, parking and ramp exercises.
There will be guidance on how to use a mobility scooter safely, maintenance and storage, and information on reputable dealers and repairers.
Nottinghamshire Fire Service will also hold a talk on home safety, which will include details of safety checks carried out by firefighters to advise residents on how to reduce the chances of a fire or accident around their home.
Coun Glynn Gilfoyle, chairman of the council’s Community Safety Committee, said: “It’s not too late to sign up to these sessions, which will be both hands-on practical and informative.
“Participants can either bring their own scooter or use one provided for the duration of the course where they will get a chance to try out various manoeuvres to make sure they can control a scooter safely.”
Residents wanting to book a place at one of the sessions or a supplier offering to lend a scooter can contact the Disabilities Living Centre on 0115 985 5780 or email [email protected]
