Mansfield teenager nominated for national hero award

Posted onPosted on 31st Dec

A teenager from Mansfield has reached the final of a national competition to find young adults who have helped in their communities during the 2020 pandemic.

Lily Redfern, 16, was nominated for Urban Jungle’s Heroes 2020 by her mum Jo, 41, who described her daughter’s kindness to an injured bird.

“Our local animal rescue was full a while back and our neighbour had an injured bird in her garden she didn’t know what to do with,” said Jo.

“My daughter went around, collected it up, kept it safe for four days making sure it was fed and watered.

“She opened the garage one morning and it flew away.

“Every life is worth saving and I’m really proud of her.”

Jimmy Williams, chief executive of Urban Jungle, the company behind the competition, said: “We think young adults have had to endure a lot in 2020 and want to do our bit to say ‘thank you’.

“So we want to meet the people, hear the stories and give thanks and recognition to those who have helped us all through.

“Perhaps they went shopping for an ill neighbour, took up the slack at work when others couldn’t or have been on the front line. We want to hear your nomination.”

Nominate your hero for 2020 by January 7th, 2021, and they could receive a £250 Amazon voucher and become Urban Jungle’s 2020 Hero.
