Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre has received top marks in this year’s Patient-led Assessment of the Care Environment (PLACE).

The centre was rated at 100 per cent for cleanliness and for the food served on the ward. Assessors also gave a near perfect score of 99.3 per cent for the centre’s condition, appearance and the maintenance of its building in Lindrick Way.

The centre also received 91 per cent for the privacy and dignity with which patients are treated; 94.3 per cent for its support for people living with a disability and 93.5 per cent for those living with dementia.

Across the country, 1,144 hospitals and treatment centres took part. PLACE assessments are an annual appraisal of the non-clinical aspects of healthcare services, undertaken by teams made up of staff and members of the public, known as patient assessors. The teams must include at least 50 per cent patient assessors.

Head of nursing Elaine Bodle, from Mansfield, said: “We were all delighted when we received the results of the independent inspection. Our scores were above the national average in every section; in the case of the disability and dementia sections by more than 10 per cent. It is wonderful to know we can provide such care for our most vulnerable patients.

“The team work exceptionally hard to ensure all our patients receive first rate care, delivered with compassion and dignity.

“Cleanliness is the cornerstone of excellent healthcare; without it, patients are not safe. In our 15-year history we have not had a single hospital acquired infection and that is due to the rigour of our processes and the professionalism of our cleaning and maintenance teams as well as our clinicians.

“I want to thank them for all their hard work, which was recognised by the inspectors in the perfect scores.”
