Mansfield Marians WI, which will begin its third full year in January with an open evening, is inviting all ladies to join them to get a taste of what the modern WI is all about.

A spokesman said: “They are not the Jam and Jerusalem genre of old, but a lively, interesting group of women who meet once a month for either a speaker evening, a craft session or something completely different.

“January is the beginning of the WI year and lots of interesting and entertaining events have been planned.

“The first speaker of the year will speak about ‘Dead Men Talking’, which is about forensic science.”

The Marians meet in the function room of the Rushley pub on Nottingham Road, Mansfield, on the third Thursday of every month at 7.30pm. There will be no charge to attend the meeting on Thursday, 16th January.

The spokesman added: “A warm welcome is guaranteed whatever the weather. Just get a drink from the bar and settle down to be entertained.
