Mansfield Carnival needs you!

Posted onPosted on 6th Apr

A full day of free family fun, including live music, activities, crafts, food, face-painting, walkabout entertainers, and a parade, is promised at Mansfield Carnival.

For the first time Mansfield District Council’s Cultural Services team will be hosting Mansfield Carnival to celebrate Mansfield’s Windrush generation.

It will take place on Saturday, 17th June, in and around Mansfield Market Place, from 10am to 3pm.

Now organisers want to hear from people who would like to get involved.

Volunteers are wanted to be marshals on the day, lining the parade route, and being an information point for visitors. They will be given a free T-shirt to wear on the day and keep to commemorate being part of the carnival, as well as a whistle and refreshments.

Local groups such as Brownies, football clubs, and cheerleaders are also wanted to line the parade route and make some noise.

Stalls are available at the Caribbean-themed market on the day.

Dance troupes, singers, poets and acts to perform on stage in the Market Place throughout the day are being asked to come forward.

To find out more contact Kirsty Sanders on 01623 463088 or [email protected].

Free family dance classes are being held for people wanting to take part in the parade.  Go to Mansfield Palace Theatre on Tuesdays, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, or Ladybrook Community Centre on Thursdays, from 7pm to 8.15pm. For more information or to sign up, contact Maria Slack on [email protected] or 07367 304154.

An exhibition about the Windrush generation in Mansfield, It Runs Through Us, is at Mansfield Museum until 30th November.
