Major boost for millennium green project

The Mansfield Woodhouse Millennium Green Trust has received a £10,254 funding boost for its project to develop the green.

The green, on Welbeck Road, is managed for the benefit of local people and wildlife, and the grant will fund the creation of a wildflower meadow, community orchard and hedgerow management.

A fourth element, the carving of a tree sculpture will provide a focal point for the project.

The grant from the SITA Trust for Access The BUZZ — It’s Local and It’s Free was welcomed by trust secretary Sheila McFarlane.

“Creating a balance between the needs of nature and making something that is attractive to the community can be quite difficult,” she said.

“Nature often thrives in areas that look uncared for, that some would say look a mess.

“We hope that the outcome of this project gives local people something attractive to look at and at the same time is a valuable resource for wildlife.”

SITA Trust provides grants through the Landfill Communities Fund.
