Learners over moon to help planetarium project

Posted onPosted on 28th Jun

A special fundraising event was hosted by learners from ATTFE College to support Sherwood Observatory’s ambitious plans for a Science Discovery Centre and Planetarium.

The Sutton-based college held the VIP event at the Caunton home of Sir John Peace, the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire.

Students and staff worked closely with planetarium staff to invite more than 75 guests, who enjoyed an afternoon of food, planet-inspired mocktails, and updates about the project at the Sutton observatory.

The college’s Adult and Programme of Study (PoS) learners helped prepare, set up, and staff the event.

Adult catering learners produced and served the guests afternoon-tea-style food.

Digital skills learners created table name places, and menus. PoS learners made table centre pieces and served the space-themed mocktails.

College principal Liz Barrett said: “We are grateful to Sir John Peace and his family for hosting this event.

“The planetarium project, based in Ashfield, has the potential to become a national visitor attraction and a centre of excellence for STEM.

“To have such a facility at the heart of our community is exciting and will enable residents and future generations to really reach for the stars.

“A massive thank you to all involved, helping raise awareness and funds for the project.”
