Jubilee surprise for fundraiser

Posted onPosted on 6th Jun

Super fundraiser Yvette Price-Mear was given a Platinum Jubilee surprise by a grateful Scouts group.

Earlier this year Yvette, of Mansfield Woodhouse, combined her love of bingo and fundraising to celebrate her 60th birthday in style.

She visited 60 Mecca Bingo clubs over six months to also mark the company’s own 60th birthday and, after travelling 4,200 miles, raised more than £10,000 for three causes — Pet Bereavement Support, Carers Trust, — and 4th Mansfield Woodhouse Scouts.

To say thank you, the Scouts arranged a special surprise for Yvette over the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration weekend.

“It was a really incredible thing. I was invited to Walesby Forest Scout Centre for tea at the Platinum Jubilee Camp… or so I thought.

“From the reception to the Scouting Lodge (half a mile) my little car had a blue-light escort and people were lining the road, waving their flags and clapping.

“I got out of my car and 4th Mansfield Woodhouse Scouts akela Phil Pogmore gave me a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee necker and a super badge.

“Some adorable Beavers gave me a massive card and gorgeous flowers.

“We went on to the Lodge balcony and akela made a lovely speech, which made me cry. There was a wonderful BBQ — and a game of bingo! — before we sat around a camp fire singing songs.

“I’m so grateful to everyone at 4th Mansfield Woodhouse — Scouts, Beavers, Explorers and Leaders. It’s made a memory for life and I feel extremely grateful.”
