Improving access for all at Sutton Lawn

Posted onPosted on 12th Jun

Thanks to Nottinghamshire County Council funding, The Friends of Sutton Lawn, supported by Ashfield District Council, secured investment to improve access around the park and introduce a new roundabout at the play area.

Coun Tim Brown, Ashfield District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: “The funding has provided a great opportunity to improve the facilities at Sutton Lawn, which is one of the district’s destination parks.

“The improvements have enabled Ashfield District Council to deliver new ways to make our play facilities more inclusive for local residents.”

Footpath access around the site has also been improved through the removal of an A frame barrier that can be challenging for mobility scooters and cyclists. A connecting pathway leads down to the lake, improving circulation around the site for residents to enjoy different elements to the park.

Coun John Cottee, Committee Chairman for Communities and Place for Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “This is a great example of how Nottinghamshire County Council is helping improve facilities in the local community. The County Council has funded more than half of these improvements, including better access for those in wheelchairs and the creation of a new roundabout making the park even more fun and appealing to young people, helping them stay fit and active.”
