Huthwaite park transformation receives funding boost

Posted onPosted on 25th Jul

The £320,000 transformation of Welfare Park, Huthwaite, is to be completed thanks to extra funding.

Ashfield District Council spent £120,000 on improvements last year.

Now a further £200,000 will be spent to double the amount of play equipment, put in new football goals, and improve the Multi-Use Games Area and Skate Park.

The council is also working with the Lawn Tennis Association to make major improvements.

The plans were revealded by local councillors Paul Grafton and Tom Hollis.

Coun Hollis, deputy leader of the council, said: “Transforming our parks has been a huge priority of the Ashfield Independents. We’ve already spent £100,000, but have secured this additional money to finish the job.

“We will be consulting local residents and park users on these plans, which will completed by the end of next year. We are confident that residents will love it, but we want them to have the final say on improvements.”

As part of the proposed work all outer fencing will also be repainted, and the park will be landscaped and naturalised, with additional benches and picnic tables installed.

A new online booking system for the tennis courts will be introduced by the autumn.

Coun Grafton added: “We promised in the elections in May that we would fight to improve and finish the job of improving Welfare Park.

“We are proud of Welfare Park and our other parks and open spaces in Huthwaite.”
