Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust hosted another Step into the NHS event in September in partnership with West Nottinghamshire College and Nottingham Trent University.
Held at King’s Mill Hospital, Sutton, the event welcomed hundreds of job seekers interested in discovering the wide variety of careers available across local hospitals.
The showcase featured both clinical and non-clinical roles, with attendees having the opportunity to engage with healthcare professionals, observe live demonstrations, and participate in hands-on activities. From nursing to IT and administrative roles, the event highlighted the vast opportunities within the NHS, providing valuable insights into career paths and current job openings.
In total, the event collected nine CVs and gathered the details of 27 individuals, demonstrating the keen interest in NHS careers.
Feedback from several teams who participated in the event revealed that many attendees, particularly those who had just finished Year 11, were unaware of the wide range of roles available within the NHS.
One of the event attendees, Opeyemi Ademola, said: “I feel this event was a great way to properly showcase the many job opportunities in the NHS. It’s very diverse, with something for everyone. The staff were very accommodating and took the time to explain in detail how to apply for jobs. They made us realise how many vacancies are posted on their website every day, including apprenticeships and other opportunities.”
Rob Simcox, director of People at Sherwood Forest Hospitals, said: “It’s always encouraging to witness conversations spanning from students at the start of their educational journey to those seeking full-time roles.
“We had a fantastic level of interest from individuals wanting to join Sherwood Forest Hospitals. If you couldn’t make it, we’ll be hosting more ‘Step into the NHS’ career fairs throughout the year, and we encourage you to check our website for any live job opportunities.”
Nikki Slack, assistant principal for health, education and wellbeing at West Nottinghamshire College, said: “Another wonderful event organised by Sherwood Forest Hospitals. It was inspiring to see so many members of our community attend and show genuine interest in exploring the variety of careers available at the trust.
“I was particularly impressed to hear how many individuals enquired about those vital first steps into healthcare through the training we offer at West Nottinghamshire College in healthcare and health sciences and Access to HE, Nursing, Healthcare and Sciences programmes.”
