Following a successful fundraising appeal, the Forest Town Nature Conservation Group has purchased the Spa Ponds Nature Reserve, off Clipstone Drive, Forest Town. The group has also been formally registered as a charity with the Charity Commission.
The group is hosting a talk on Wednesday, 19th November, by community archaeologist Andy Gaunt. The talk will focus on the Sherwood Forest Archaeology Project, which includes the Medieval origins of Spa Ponds.
According to Andy Gaunt: “The talk will be an opportunity to learn about Medieval Sherwood Forest, its administration and the Forest law. Also the landscape of the forest, the woods and the heath famous as the haunt of outlaws, the Royal Palace in Kings Clipstone at its heart, and the romantic hunting landscape that surrounded it. The talk will cover much of the latest archaeological research by Mercian Archaeological Services CIC in Sherwood Forest including King John’s Palace, St. Edwin’s Chapel and Robin Hood’s Village of Edwinstowe”.
All are welcome. The meeting starts at 7pm in the Lounge of the Forest Town Welfare (Arena). £2 suggested donation.
