Hidden benefits of meals service

Meals At Home customers in the Mansfield area were handed their lunches by a new delivery driver — deputy leader of Nottinghamshire County Council Coun Joyce Bosnjak.

Coun Bosnjak helped to deliver hot meals to raise awareness of the service.
Around 1,700 residents use the council service, which offers a wide range of frozen or hot meals delivered to the doorstep.

Coun Bosnjak said: “A hot meal in the middle of the day is invaluable. There’s a great choice available and the meals are well presented, highly nutritious and taste good too, I’m told.

“What this morning has shown me is that County Enterprise Foods is more than a delivery service. Staff takes notice of
changes in people’s health or behaviour and in turn often alert family members.

“The delivery staff go out in all weathers and are committed to ensuring everyone gets their meals.”

Delivery driver Michelle Baker said: “We are not just about delivering meals, we also make sure our customers are safe and well and raise the alarm if there is a problem.

“They are more like family than customers and we will do anything we can to help them where possible.”

Mr Jackson, of Mansfield Woodhouse, said: “Without this service I wouldn’t get a hot meal and that is weight lifted from my mind as I can’t cook one on my own.”

The service produces around 4,000 meals a day using fresh ingredients and seasonal vegetables.
