Helping victims of domestic abuse

A charity that supports people impacted by domestic abuse in Nottinghamshire has received a £1,000 donation from the Amazon fulfilment centre team in Sutton.

Nottinghamshire Independent Domestic Abuse Services (NIDAS)provides specialist services across Mansfield and Ashfield. It offers a family-based approach for people who are living with or have experienced domestic violence or abuse, and the donation was part of the Amazon team’s efforts to mark International Women’s Day.

The donation will be used to support the charity’s wellbeing programme, aimed at bringing women back into society after abuse.

Georgia Akuwudike, site leader at Amazon, Sutton, said: “We wanted to mark International Women’s Day by donating to a local charity that is doing great work in the community to support not only women, but all those who are impacted by domestic abuse. We hope this donation helps the charity to continue to support those who need them.”

Sarah Dagley, from NIDAS, added: “We would like to thank Georgia and the team for this donation. We focus on intervention and prevention at the earliest stage possible, enabling families to live healthy, happy and safe lives.

“The donations we receive are vital to ensure we are able to continue to support women and families.”

The donation was part of Amazon’s programme to support communities around its operating locations across the UK.

Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast to deliver more than three and a half million healthy breakfasts to families around the UK.
