A community choir, launched this year and run by Mansfield-based Disability Nottinghamshire, has been given a major boost.
The Our Voice community choir will benefit from a donation of £720 from the Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards.
Disability Nottinghamshire (formerly DIAL Mansfield and District) provides free, confidential and impartial information, advice and advocacy to people with disabilities and impairments, their carers, friends and families as well as professionals and students.
The choir is inclusive regardless of ability and is open anyone who has a disability or long-term health condition and their carers, family and friends living in Mansfield and the surrounding areas.
Community support worker Claire Staples said “The choir provides an opportunity for isolated and vulnerable members of the community to come together and unite through the medium of music.
Singing bonds people together, exercises a range of muscles and makes you feel happy. People can feel isolated and singing in a choir is an excellent way to combat that and create a positive and inclusive community.”
The choir always welcomes new members at its weekly Thursday sessions from 10.30am-noon at the Salvation Army, Victoria Street, Mansfield.

“Disability Nottinghamshire is a fantastic organisation doing brilliant work.”
The Tesco community awards provides one-off donations from £500 to £2,500 to registered charities and not-for-profit organisations.
