Mansfield District Council is offering support to dog owners by offering a reduced microchipping service for £10 per dog as compulsory microchipping legislation takes effect on 6th April.
The new legislation means all dog keepers will be required to have their dogs microchipped and registered on one of the authorised databases, such as Petlog, or face a fine of £500.
The law is aimed at reducing abandoned, mistreated and abused dogs, making people think twice before owning a pet as keepers become more traceable and accountable for their actions.
Portfolio holder for public protection, deputy mayor Mick Barton said: “We’re working hard to get dogs back to their families and to raise awareness about responsible dog ownership.
“Microchips are an effective way to do this, which is why we’re happy to support and enforce this new law.”
The microchipping service offered by the council is available to all Mansfield district residents.
