Helping charity to send disadvantaged children on holiday

Posted onPosted on 25th Oct

Unitarians at the Old Meeting House, Mansfield, are holding a special coffee morning on Saturday, 25th November, from 10am to 12noon, to raise money for SACH (Send a Child to Hucklow).

The charity sends groups of disadvantaged children on an all-expenses paid week’s holiday to Great Hucklow, Derbyshire.

The Rev Maria Pap, of the Old Meeting House, said: “‘So many of us knew the excitement and joy of going on holiday after the long restrictions of Covid. Imagine, then, if you are a child and, for whatever reason, you have no chance of ever going on a holiday.

“Every child deserves to know the freedom and happiness of a holiday and SACH is a charity that provides these opportunities.

“Last year, three groups of children from schools in Mansfield and Kirkby experienced a holiday week of home-cooked food, wide open spaces, and visits to local attractions including Chatsworth and the Heights of Abraham.

“One child wrote: ‘The bed got me stuck in a cloud and the food took me to heaven’!

Milky coffees, buttered toast, and homemade cakes will be on sale at the coffee morning, as well as a bring and buy, and a Christmas raffle. It is open to all.

Organisers hope to raise £350 — the cost of sending one child to Great Hucklow for a week’s holiday in 2024.

Limited parking is available at the Old Meeting House Unitarian Chapel, on Stockwell Gate, close to B&M and next to Walkden Street Car Park.
