Help Rotary on right royal clean-up

Kirkby Rotary Club and Ashfield District Council are joining forces, with sponsorship by Morrisons, to improve a garden border in a busy street in Kirkby town centre.

The initiative is part of Clean for The Queen, acampaign that includes a special clean-up weekend, on March 4th–6th, to tidy Britain in time for The Queen’s 90th birthday.

The Rotary Club is inviting local residents interested in gardening to take part in the clean-up day on Friday March 4th, starting at 9am. Numbers will be limited so anyone who would like to help should ring Rotarian Francis Newenham on 01623 360148 or email [email protected] quoting ‘Clean for the Queen’.

The pavement-side border covering approximately 60 sq.m will be cleared of weeds and planted with an estimated 150 shrubs.

“It’s a great opportunity”, said Mr Newenham, the club’s projects committee chairman, “to help improve the environment in our town. We hope that a good number of amateur gardeners, or in fact anyone who can use a spade, will get in touch and join the Rotarians for a couple of hours or so. It promises to be a fun event and a very useful one!”

Kirkby Rotary Club President Paul Riley said: “We’re delighted to have this co-operation with Ashfield District Council and Morrisons. Rotary in general is dedicated to supporting the local community, and it’s especially true of us here in Kirkby. This project is an excellent example of the idea put into action.”
