Healthy week at primary school

Pupils at Asquith Primary School, Mansfield, had a week of health-themed activities.

All Things Healthy included visitors giving presentations, trips out of school and teacher-led sessions.

Seven classes visited the Tesco store on Jubilee Way South and others went to Frankie and Benny’s, Toby Carvery, Mansfield Town Football in the Community and Oak Tree Leisure Centre, Mansfield, where they tried trampolining, made a healthy stir fry and took part in multi-sports activities.

There were talks from Pete Herniman, of Pinders Opticians, Mansfield; Notts Healthwatch, and Thackeray Dental Care and Mydentist.

Notts Fire Service held an obstacle course, staff from Freed Beeches, Worksop, talked about having a positive body image and students from West Notts College delivered sports activities.

A talk about litter and its health implications was given by Neighbourhood Warden Michelle Barber, the school nurse team gave sessions on handwashing and personal hygiene, and the Red Cross spoke about first aid.

Parents were also included in the events, including a family cooking session funded by Veolia.

Head Clare Harding said: “It is important that we give the children as many exciting experiences as possible.

“They have learnt so much from our visitors and seen a different side to our community as they have visited some interesting local places.

“We cannot thank our providers and visitors enough.”
