Oak Tree Primary School was joined by partners from the Mansfield community in an initiative to help families live healthier and more active lives.
Seventy-seven families from the school and nursery took part in The Daily Mile event (above), joining in many different activities with equipment, trying new foods, talking to different activity providers, and even having a go on a rowing machine.
Each class teacher took their children outside for 15 minutes to run or jog around the school site, with parents and carers. They then went to the Sports Hall to take part in a consultation about activity and health.
School Games, Holme Pierrepont Trust, Mansfield District Leisure Trust, Mansfield District Council and Everyone Health, which provided activities such as rowing machines, gymnastics, and short tennis, took part.
Nottinghamshire Fire Service supported the initiative by helping to measure out The Daily Mile around the school site and walking with children on the launch day.
The school is aiming to complete The Daily Mile three times a week initially, with children running or jogging at their own pace for 15 minutes in the fresh air.
Head teacher Kate Watson said: “I am very pleased so many of our families came along to take part.
“Hopefully they all answered the questions about their health and activity levels so we can work with our community partner organisations to develop activities that meet the community’s needs.”
