A chance to play tennis and the new racquet sport currently taking the UK by storm, pickleball, is coming to Mansfield.
The LTA Barclays Big Tennis Weekend event, which is encouraging more people to try the sport for free, will be at Mansfield Lawn Tennis Club, Pheasant Hill, on Saturday, 17th May, from 1pm to 4pm.
A spokesperson said: “It is all about having fun. We can provide rackets and tennis balls, so anyone can come along and play. There will also be a chance to try pickleball.
“Come and join us for a fun day out for all the family. There are organised tennis sessions with our coaching team — we have five hard courts and four grass courts, so there will be plenty of space to give tennis a try.”
Among the other entertainment will be a tombola and raffle, as well as special deals on membership packages.
Visitors can sign up for sessions with the club’s coaching team in advance at www.mansfieldtennis.co.uk/EventsV2
These will include under-8s mini tennis, a fun activity using soft balls and smaller courts, and junior tennis coaching for 9 to 17 year-olds.
There will also be a taster session for teens and adults, ideal for newcomers to the sport or those who haven’t picked up a racket in a long time.
The spokesperson added: “You can borrow our rackets if you don’t have your own.
“Just come prepared to hit a few balls and have some fun.
“Also, come down to the club and give pickleball a try. Members and non-members are welcome, and supervised sessions will be running all afternoon.
“And if you don’t fancy a coaching session, why not just try out our facilities. It’s free for the afternoon.”
The open event will be repeated on Saturday, 5th July.
