Two new 3G football pitches are heading to Sutton Lawn after being given the go ahead by Ashfield District Council’s Planning Committee.
They will replace the current pitch at the park, which is being removed as part of the planning application. The plans also include an overflow car park, which will include 30 extra parking spaces.
The pitches will be managed by Sutton Community Academy and used for PE lessons during school hours.
They will be available for community football organisations, sports clubs and private hire during evenings and weekends.
The academy will be responsible for operating the site and bookings.
The move is is part of the wider Sports Hub Project at Sutton Lawn that has been awarded Government funding through the Towns Fund and Future High Streets Fund.
John Bennett, the council’s Executive Director – Place, said: “The council is dedicated to improving and providing more sports facilities across the district. This decision is another step in that commitment.
“We are opening up our green spaces and parks to provide more opportunities for our residents. We know the pupils of Sutton Community Academy will also make the most of these during their PE lessons. We may even see future England stars start out on these pitches.
“Health and Happiness is one of our priorities as a council and I look forward to seeing the new pitches become a reality.”
