Green fingers at Abbey Primary

Posted onPosted on 18th Apr

Staff from Tesco’s Chesterfield Road store in Mansfield went to Abbey Primary School in the town to help children with a planting activity.

House captains and vice-captains from each of the school’s four houses worked with a Tesco employee to plant up one of four raised beds created using a Tesco Bags Of Help grant.

Abbey received the grant last year to help improve its outdoor area and has designed and created artwork as well as designing the raised beds for planting.

The beds reflect the house teams that the school uses as a focus for its reward scheme — the four elements of air, fire, earth and water. The plants will show the colours and characteristics associated with the elements.

Deputy head Charlotte Place said: “We were over the moon when we heard we had secured a Bags Of Help grant. It has generated great opportunities for our children to get involved with developing the school playground.”
